The Full Story
Dr. Joe T. Murphy Jr., D.Min., is a Retired United States Army Veteran, Christian author, and marketplace minister whose life and work are governed by a single theological conviction — the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable (Romans 11:29).
His story begins not with ambition, but with a foundation.
From his earliest years, his mother — Rev. Susan Murphy, who still resides in North Carolina — brought him up in the Lord. She made sure he was in church every Sunday, and Joe is deeply grateful for that upbringing. It was not incidental. It was formative. The seeds planted in those pews, through those services, through a mother who refused to let the things of God be optional, made him who he is today. Proverbs 22:6 was not just a promise in his household — it was a practice.
That foundation was tested and tried through the years. But in January 2001, his father — the late Elder Joe T. Murphy Sr. — called him and, with the love and authority of a father who carried the Word, coordinated a church and pastor near where Joe lived at the time. He went. And in that place, he gave everything to God. What followed was not merely a religious experience — it was a new birth. God began to work on him, drawing him close and beginning to unfold the prophetic plans He had ordained for his life. The word that anchored that moment came from Hosea 14 — a passage of return, restoration, and the grace of a God who receives us fully when we come back to Him.
That foundation set the trajectory for everything that would follow.
His journey into ministry deepened not in a seminary classroom, but in a conference room in 2013, when a coworker quoted Romans 11:29 and redirected the course of his life. That single verse — "for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance" — became the governing framework for everything that followed and the theological heartbeat of his calling.
Dr. Murphy is the founder of Irrevocable Gift Ministries, through which he publishes and creates resources designed to help believers identify, align, and deploy the gifts God has irrevocably placed in them. His IRREVOCABLE book series addresses the full arc of that journey — from the resurrection of buried gifts to the discovery of calling, the deployment of gifts in the marketplace, and the apostolic pattern of purpose and power.
Alongside his wife and equal ministry partner Sonya, he is the founder and co-owner of Murphy Wood Designs LLC, a veteran-owned, faith-based custom CNC wood engraving business based in Georgia. The business holds collegiate licensing agreements with multiple Southeastern universities and operates at the intersection of Spirit-gifted creativity and marketplace ministry.
Dr. Murphy earned the Doctor of Ministry degree in January 2025. He and Sonya make their home in Georgia, where they continue to pursue a shared conviction — that the marketplace is a mission field, that creative gifts are holy, and that no calling God assigns is ever truly buried beyond resurrection.
